ThursDIY | Floral Wall Decor

I just wanted to share this with y’all and quickly tell you how I put it together! I didn’t take step-by-step photos this time because I didn’t know I was going to even make this ahead of time, and it really was just so painfully easy! So, without further ado, the things you will need are:

  1. rustic photo frames (you can purchase them already distressed, or distress them yourself!)
  2. artificial flowers
  3. scrapbook paper
  4. scissors
  5. hot glue gun & glue

All you have to do is choose the scrapbook paper you like, cut it to size of the picture frame glass, and place it in the frame. Pick the flowers from the stems and with your hot glue gun, glue them to either the surface of the frame, or the paper (which you’ve placed in front of the glass so you can reuse the frame in the future if you wish! It really is that simple! Just have fun with it and here is a tip: place the flowers where you think you want them and play around with it a little before going in with the glue! You want to be sure you know where you want them beforehand! Then, you just go ahead and place them any way you want on your wall! Done.

Makeup Monday |Quest for Plump Lips Part III

It has been a while since I purchased a lip plumping product I’ve been dying to use! I wanted to test the plumping ability on a one-time usage as well as the plumping effect over time. I tested this product on my lips every day for an entire week, to see what progress it makes, if any, on a long term basis. So today I am going to break down my thoughts and feelings on the Too Faced lip Injections Ultimate Lip Plumper. Does it work?

You tell me!

I think I am convinced! The progress I’ve seen in a week of applications is undeniable. While this product is great for a quick plump before an evening out, it also has lasting plumping over time. I’ve applied it before bed, on top of a lip balm, just to keep them moisturized. I definitely see the results I was after!

The product does have a slight tingling, almost burning sensation…which sounds awful but it is definitely manageable, and the little discomfort subsides within 10 minutes! The formula is pretty sticky, so I recommend blotting it prior to a lipstick application, if you’ve applied it on a night out.

Ultimately, I really do enjoy this product. I see the results I want, both immediately and over time. The product retails at $29.00 CDN and is available at Sephora! They do have a newer product called the Lip Injection Extreme, and that is $39.00. I haven’t tried it, so I cannot say for certain that it does more than the original Lip Injection does, but if it works as good as the original, it is probably worth the money too.

As always, thank you for reading! Don’t forget to like my post and follow my blog before you leave! If you have any methods to achieving plumper lips, leave a comment below and let a girl in on your secret.

Makeup Monday | Quest For Plump Lips part II

The quest continues! While I absolutely loved the results from my first attempt (Part I), I’m ready to try a second technique to achieve pouty plump lips. Today I’m working with a DIY lip scrub, and the things you’ll need are:

  • A small dish
  • cinnamon powder
  • old tooth brush (with firm bristles)
  • a spatula or mixing tool
  • your favourite lip balm

Let’s get started!

  1. In a small dish, pour a teaspoon (or a heap…if you are like me and don’t measure anything) of cinnamon.
  2. Choose your favourite lip balm. I’m choosing Nivea Essential lip balm…of course!
  3. With a small spatula, or whatever mixing tool you have (fingers included), add some of your lip balm to the cinnamon and mix together until well combined, and resembling a brown paste.
  4. Take your old, firm bristled tooth brush, coat it in your paste, and begin applying it to your lips! Be very gentle during this process, and scrub in a circular motion for several minutes. You should begin to feel a tingly sensation. It should not burn or hurt, but it may feel a little spicy on your lips.
  5. With a paper towel, wipe away your scrub to reveal plumper lips!

The paste, or scrub, you created in conjunction with the toothbrush bristles exfoliating the lips will promote blood flow and slightly swell your lips, making them plumper and fuller. I am actually really happy with my results, and this method should have the plumping affect on your lips for a good 2 to 3 hours!

What do you think? Do my lips look fuller and plump? Comment down below and let me know!

As always, thank you for reading! Be sure to like, share and follow before you go.

Makeup Monday | My Favourite Nivea Products

When it comes to drugstore skin care, I’ve without fail reached for Nivea products time and time again. From face to body, Nivea just has the rich and nourishing products I love for my skin and there hasn’t been many Nivea products I haven’t absolutely loved. I’m going to list my top 9 favourite skin products from Nivea, in the order that I usually apply them to my body.

1. Nivea Nourishing Body Milk

This stuff is a dream for my whole body! It is a rich, creamy and intense moisturizer for dry to very dry skin.  I use this stuff at least once, often twice a day, after my morning shower and again before bed, to really let my skin drink up the moisture that the formula, including almond oil, provides. It smells so fresh and clean and my skin is noticeably smoother and softer.

2. Nivea Gentle Cleansing Cream for Dry Skin

This is my every day face wash. Perfect for my dry skin, it gently cleanses and smoothes while hydrating and soothing my skin, leaving my face looking healthy and clean, without drying it out. Once again, it has a very fresh scent and the cream has small and gentle pink beads throughout and the formula contains almond oil and Hydra IQ. I tend to apply this in the shower in the morning and then again, after I remove my makeup, before bed. I love how clean it makes my face feel, without leaving it feeling tight or dry, like some cleansers have in the past.

3. Nivea Exfoliating Scrub

I use this exfoliator 2 times a week to thoroughly remove dead skin cells and refine my pores. The formula includes Vitamin E, and the scrub respects the skin’s natural moisture balance. I find it leaves my skin looking healthy and glowing.

4. Nivea Refreshingly Soft Moisturizing Cream

This face, body, and hand cream is a rich but also light moisturizer that I use on my face daily. I like my moisturizer to be very hydrating, and while this cream can be used for your body and hands, it is just light enough to perfectly moisturize my face, without it feeling heavy, cakey and thick. The formula contains Jojoba oil and Vitamin E. I have repurchased this time and time again, and the product lasts quite some time, as a little definitely goes a long way!

5. Nivea Men Cooling After Shave Balm for Sensitive Skin

Anyone who knows any Beauty Guru on Youtube knows that this bad boy isn’t just for the men in our lives. It has been rediscovered as the perfect face primer for women, to keep our makeup looking flawless all day long. While this was trendy quite some time ago, and the buzz and hype has completely disappeared, this product is still sitting pretty on my vanity, used as my primer weekly. It has a nice cooling sensation on my skin, evens out my face and provides a great base to apply my makeup on top of, without any drying alcohol. I’m still obsessed.

6. Nivea 2-in-1 Moisturizing Primer

HELLO! I talked about this product in a previous post, First Impressions and I promised you I would let you know what I really thought about it once I gave it a fair shot. The truth is out – this stuff is amazing. It is as if Nivea decided to listen to all the hype behind the Shave Balm and create a real primer, that doubles as a refreshing moisturizer. My prayers have been answered. It’s hydrating and my makeup happily clings to this product for a flawless look all day long. There is never any dry patches for my foundation to stick to or emphasize and overall this product really is a great one! It has the same kind of cooling affect as the shave balm and it has the gentle fresh scent I’ve come to love from Nivea products. Thumbs up, y’all – this one is a good’un.

7. Nivea Essential Lip Balm

I’ve been using this lip balm for years! Nothing else has ever moisturized my lips like this product does, and it is by far my favourite smelling balm I’ve ever used. It doesn’t have the artificial fruity scent or taste, and I don’t know what else to say other than it is 100% a holy grail for me. I have a tube of this in every room, and in my purse, and one on my person at all times. It is that good.

8. Nivea Lip Butter – Raspberry Rose

This one is a recent favourite of mine. I originally picked it up as part of my quest to plumper lips! (Stay tuned to see how I used it) This is a more intense treatment and I have been using it before bed to really moisturize my lips. The smell is truly the perfect raspberry scent and it leaves my lips feeling incredible. I love it! And again, I have incorporated it into another attempt at plumper lips, which I will reveal in the near future.

9. Nivea 3-in-1 Cleansing Wipes for Dry Skin

Lastly, my favourite face wipes! These face wipes are for your eyes, lips and face and gently remove makeup and dirt at the end of a long day. The wipes are infused with Nivea lotion with almond oil, and they are made specifically to remove makeup, even waterproof makeup. It is especially mild for the eye area, and the enrichment of the moisturizer provides eye lash care. Can you ask for anything more in a face wipe? They are adequately saturated with product and effortlessly removes my full face of makeup every night! Once again, it doesn’t leave my face feeling tight or dry, and it doesn’t leave behind a strange residue. I’ve repurchased multiple times and it really is the only wipe I’ve used on my face in a long time. Nivea also has the Creme Care Facial Cleansing Wipes, which I love and use too, which also removes waterproof makeup.

Now, I know I sound like a Nivea commercial, and while I absolutely adore most of their products, there is one product I have tried that just didn’t do it for me. That product is the Nivea Gentle Eye Makeup Remover.

18928488_10155424329956204_438456210_nWhile it feels nice and cooling on my eyes, and removes my eye shadow well, it glides over my eye liner without lifting a single bit of the product, leaving my eye liner looking as great as the moment I applied it. I wear liquid eye-liner almost every day, so I need a remover that can handle it. Oh, and I should mention that my eyeliner is not a waterproof formula. I refuse to tug or pull on my eye area, and this product does nothing to remove my eye liner, so for that reason this product, for me, is a bust! Now, for the rare occasions that I haven’t worn my winged eye liner look, this remover has adequately removed the eye makeup I did wear, which is why this product is almost gone. I didn’t want to waste my money, so I kept it around for days where my makeup wasn’t as dramatic. I won’t repurchase this again, but I intend on using it until its empty because waste not want not.

It it clear that when it comes to drugstore face and body products, Nivea takes the cake for me. Please know that I am not in any way affiliated with the company and this post is in no way sponsored. I just truly love the products and use them regularly!

As always, thanks for reading! Don’t forget to like and share before you leave! If you have any Nivea products you think I should try, or any other products you think I would like, comment down below!

Wedding Wednesday | Save the Dates

Save the Dates – what are they? Are they necessary? Where do I start?

Officially announce your wedding date by sending your guests your Save the Dates to let them know they will be invited to your celebration! Now, you don’t necessarily have to send any, but its a courtesy to give your guests a heads up on your wedding plans, for those who need to make travel arrangements, save some extra cash and arrange their busy schedules. Since a lot of our VIG (Very Important Guests) are living in the United States, we wanted to give everyone ample time to plan and prepare for our big day. Cutting the Save the Dates can help your budget, but in the long run, if you find a great deal like I did, it really isn’t breaking the bank, and I had a really great time creating ours.

The general rule is to send them 6 to 8 months prior to the wedding. Any later than that they might as well be invitations. Send them to everyone you want to attend your wedding, even include the wedding party, siblings and parents! It is important to be absolutely positive about your guest list prior to sending out your Save the Dates, because once they are in the mail, there really isn’t any turning back. If you are following the steps I have, you’ll already have everyone’s mailing information since you’ve created your guest list and the guest’s important information.

You may not know all of the nitty gritty details, so only the crucial information is needed for now. You’ll want to include Who (the couple) What (the wedding…duh) When (the date) and Where (the city, as the venue may not be booked and its not necessary at this stage).

The really fun part about the Save the Dates is getting to design something true to the couple themselves. It isn’t necessary for your Save the Dates to really match the theme or colours of your wedding, as they are much more casual, and colours and themes may not be chosen just yet. Your goal is to create a Save the Date that represents you as a couple and will get the guests excited for your big day! As ours haven’t been sent, I won’t be showing you what we’ve come up with just yet, I want it to be a surprise to all those who will receive them. I will say that we kept it simple and sweet and in a subtle way, our Save the Dates suit our personalities.

I recommend checking out Vistaprint when you are ready to order your Save the Dates. The quality is amazing and the deals are unbeatable! It’s what I decided to go with and I’m really happy with them. I’ve ordered business cards and Christmas cards from Vistaprint in the past and I’ve never been disappointed. (Disclaimer: I am NOT sponsored or paid to say that. It’s just true!)

Having our Save the Dates completed makes this feel even more real! I can’t wait to pop them in the mail so that all of our family and friends can start preparing for our special day.

The only way to do this part of the wedding planning is to have fun and don’t stress about them. Save the Dates are exciting, laid back and fun so you should enjoy it.

As always, thanks for reading! Stay tuned for the Save the Dates reveal. Don’t forget to follow, like and share this post before you go!

Makeup Monday | Quest for Plump Lips – part I

There’s no way around it- I want plumper lips! So, I’m on a quest to achieve the appearance of plump, pouty lips WITHOUT lip injections, because no thanks. So, my first attempt was to just master the illusion with the power of makeup, and more specifically- lipstick. Heres what I did:

step one:
Line your lips with a nude lip liner. I slightly over lined mine and corrected any areas that are not naturally symmetrical on me (like my cupids bow).

step two:
apply your nude lipstick, and blend it in with your lip liner!

step three:
take a darker lip liner now, and pucker up! You are going to draw lines to emphasize where your lips crease. I draw three on top and three on bottom. (see photos 3 & 4)

step four:
blend those darker lines into your lipstick, and you can even add just a light layer on top with the lipstick.

step five:
add a little gloss JUST in the center of the lips.

BOOM! Plump lips!

This was just my first option for having plumper lips. I’ve got plenty more ideas to achieve this look, so stayed tuned for more ideas in the very near future! If you have any ideas for me to try, comment down below!

As always, thanks for reading. Be sure to like and share my post and show me the love!

Wedding Wednesday | Colour Scheme

There are endless colour scheme possibilities for your big day, and its sometimes hard to narrow it down to one! Along with sharing some tips on choosing your colour scheme, I’m  also revealing the colour scheme we’ve chosen, how we reached our decision and what colour schemes were close contenders!

When it comes to colour selection, Pinterest is your best friend! There are so many photos and colour swatches to help inspire you and create your theme and vision. When Kyle proposed 11 months ago (oh wow has it already been nearly a year?), I took to the internet straight away. Choosing colours is one of the most enjoyable part of planning in my opinion. Its when your mind can get creative and you can explore so many flower options and decoration ideas solely based on the colours you choose!

When beginning to choose colour schemes, there are a few things you should consider:

  1. Colour Theory: choose whether you want a monochromatic theme (a single hue in various shades), a complementary theme (colours from opposite sides), or a analogous theme (colours side by side). Knowing what you imagine will help choose the proper colours.
  2. Consider the seasons: be seasonally appropriate. A peach, mint and light blue theme isn’t exactly the perfect shades for a winter wedding! No colour is off limits for a particular season, but how you pair those colours make all the difference.
  3. Choose a Neutral: you need a neutral shade to ground your palette. Using a neutral shade in your scheme will help draw all eyes on the pops of colour and detail you’ve put such thought into.
  4. Research: As I said before, take to the internet and find inspiration! Seeing how colours have worked for other weddings and how people have paired certain colours successfully will help you.

There were a lot of different schemes I was thinking about, but couldn’t really nail down a true vision of what I wanted. I knew I wanted it to be laid-back, rustic, and even a little bohemian, maybe. Some of the top contenders are as follows:

Screen Shot 2017-05-13 at 7.32.20 PM

Screen Shot 2017-05-13 at 7.34.51 PM    Screen Shot 2017-05-13 at 7.45.31 PM

The common colours I returned to over and over again were the blue shades and red shades. I loved the combo together and wanted to find the perfect way to mesh them together. So, when Kyle was accepted into the RCMP academy, my thought process changed slightly. I wasn’t sure how Kyle felt, and given that it was a six-month academy he had to first graduate from before getting carried away with the idea, in the back of my mind all I could think of was “he’ll probably wear his red serge!” Which is an honour that he worked very hard to achieve. So, when graduation was approaching we had the conversation (albeit over FaceTime) about whether or not he wanted to wear his uniform on our wedding day! After some deliberation, we decided that DUH! He’ll be dressed in his red serge for the ceremony! And, because it isn’t the most comfortable of outfits, he’ll change into something more casual for the reception.

So, its hard to incorporate a bohemian style when your handsome husband-to-be is sporting one of the most recognized, prestigious, most formal uniforms in the world. That was fine by me. I knew we could still have a laid-back feel, and the only formal aspect of this wedding would in fact be the serge.

This made colour selection immediately easier. You have to be careful when pairing colours with cherry red. One colour I knew worked perfectly with this particular shade of red was of course navy! Which happens to be one of my favourite shades. There are some beautiful options for bridesmaids dresses and floral arrangements with this colour scheme and I’ve found some inspiration online that I’m kind of in love with!

Now, in effort to keep some of my wedding plans a surprise for my family and friends, I won’t be going into detail about specific decorations and arrangements. I will say however that the official colour scheme is Red, Navy, Ivory and a hint of Gold peppered throughout. We are having a backyard wedding, which will feel really laid-back and intimate, and I will be finding a dress that is flowy and beautiful. My bridesmaids already know they are going to in navy dresses with the style of their choice and the men will be in a deep grey. Our decorations and floral arrangements will be made to suit the theme.  I think the colours will contrast nicely with each other and I know my man is going to look sharp in the uniform he worked so hard to earn!

Now that the colours have been officially chosen, the rest of the planning will come easier. I am now able to perfectly visualize the decor and the arrangements and can make decisions on what I like and don’t like. Because most (actually all) of the decor will be DIY, I can make everything just the way I want it.

Choosing our colours was one of the most enjoyable parts of planning thus far. I’m extremely happy with the scheme we’ve come up with and I can’t wait to begin working on the decorations and incorporating our scheme into the small details of our big day! I hope this helped you choose your colours and gave you inspiration! Let me know in the comments below what colours you’ve chosen for your wedding.

As always, thanks for reading! Don’t forget to hit the like and share button below!

Wedding Wednesday | Creating a Budget

One of the first stages of planning a wedding is setting down a firm budget for your big day. This can be somewhat of a daunting task and while it is easy to say “I want a DIY wedding with a painfully low budget”, it is even easier to spend two times your spending goal.  In order to achieve your perfect day without breaking the bank, you have to have a clear vision of what you want and be willing to adjust your expectations accordingly. You can have your perfect beautiful wedding regardless of your budget, and here’s how I plan on achieving mine.

As I mentioned above, you have to create a clear image in your head about exactly what kind of wedding you want and how you want it to look and feel. It’s important to discuss your visions with your fiancé, and be sure you are both on the same page about what you imagine your day to be. Kyle and I agreed immediately that a small wedding ceremony and a larger reception was what we want, so we began throwing ideas around for themes, colours and venues. Wether you want a a small backyard wedding, a glamorous event or a all-out shindig, knowing what you want is crucial in creating a budget that works for you.

It’s hard to work on a realistic budget that accommodates most of what you want for your big day if you don’t know what things cost in your area. Perhaps, for example, you budget $1000 for a photographer and learn that photography packages in your area start at $2000. This is where research comes in. I often times take to the Facebook page for local brides to find answers to questions on many topics, including approximate pricing for certain vendors. The internet is your friend when it comes to planning a wedding and most everything you are looking for can be found on the world wide web. Find email addresses for those vendors who do not list their prices and ask them directly. Once you have an idea of what, approximately, everything costs, you can sit down and decide what a reasonable and realistic budget looks like.

Count Heads

The number of guests you plan on having attend your big day is directly linked to how much money you’ll spend. Catering is a huge expense for weddings, and its one that Kyle and I have eliminated from our plans. While we have decided against a traditional sit-down reception dinner, we still have to feed our wonderful family and friends. It is important to know how many mouths you need to feed and in what capacity you intend on doing so. Not to spoil any surprises to my readers who will be in attendance, but we will be having a pub food type of casual buffet prior to the dance, and we are considering having pizzas delivered later in the night. Our budget will rely on this detail, and can be adjusted once we receive RSVP’s, as the odds that all of our invited guests will be able to make it is slim. Another cost affiliated with numbers is the amount of chairs I’ll need to rent for the ceremony. Once again, knowing how many people will be in attendance is necessary in forming an accurate budget.

Save! & Cut Costs Where Possible

With regards to saving, assess your financial situation, and decide how much you can reasonably save. It can be challenging, but putting away 15-20% of your monthly income is a great way to ensure you have the funds you need to throw the biggest party of your life! I recommend storing that money in an account that isn’t easily accessed (so a trip to Sephora doesn’t become a shopping spree with a swipe of a card). The account we chose to use was one in which in order to access the money I must contact the bank to release the money, with a 24 hour hold. This is not my “in case of emergency” account! That’s about all I’ll say about my saving methods. Do what works for you!

Moving on to cutting costs. Venues can be the majority of your cost of a wedding, along side of catering that is. An issue I was running into when it came to venues was that most places required you to pay for their contracted caterers, not allowing for any external food or drink to be brought to the premises. This clearly didn’t work with what we envisioned for our day. I had to search for venues that allowed for us to bring our own food. Luckily, I think I’ve found the perfect place for our reception, and although it is a little outside of town, it fits what we want and is under budget! We are having our ceremony in my parents backyard, which sounds like a $0.00 venue – but you have to consider a rental of a tent in case of weather and the chair rental as well. That being said, it is still an extremely affordable alternative to any of the venue spaces in my hometown, and it definitely fits within the laid back, relaxed and intimate feel we are going for.

As I said, catering is another expense we did everything in our power to cut down on. While it will still be a few hundred dollars to adequately feed our family and friends, upon doing my research it became clear to me that our choice was definitely saving us some serious cash.

You have to decide what is absolutely important to have and what you can live without when it comes to your wedding day. Kyle and I won’t be hiring a videographer or a professional DJ or live band. Those options alone cut down on our cost. We still intend on having a photographer, but I am hoping to have a talented friend or acquaintance take our photos, who isn’t necessarily a professional but who I am confident will provide beautiful snapshots of our day. These are things Kyle and I both agree we can do without, in order to put our money behind things we deem more important. For instance, my dress. Though I fully intend on finding a killer deal on a “last year’s model”, I still want to budget a little higher in order to guarantee that I walk down the isle feeling and looking like a million bucks. Also, while I can confidently say I can do my makeup myself (and enjoy doing it), I am going to be hiring someone to do my hair, without question!

I am very lucky that I have a talented mom by my side (metaphorically…as she’s 6000km away), who is excited to create all of our beautiful decorations with me. This will be a budget friendly aspect, as I will pay for supplies for the DIY project and between the both of us we will make all of the decorations needed to make it beautiful. The DIY quality will add to the laid back, rustic feel. I’ll also be making the party favours and the gifts to bridal party. I’ll be making my own save-the-dates and invites as well, once again cutting down the cost significantly.

It’s all about what you want and need on your wedding day and what you can do without, or do yourself without a professional.

Stay Firm

Remember there is a reason you chose the budget you did. Do everything in your power to stay within your budget throughout the entire planning stage. Understand that surprises come up, things may turn out to be more expensive than originally planned for, so always have a little extra tucked away for those instances, but don’t decide that a $1000 photo booth for your guests is all of a sudden a total must and increase your budget to accommodate. That’s a surefire way of doubling your spending very quickly. Stay firm on your budget and your vision. If you decide that the $1000 photo booth for your guests really is a total must, you’ll have to choose something on your budget list that is no longer a total must. Adjust the items on your budget, not the budget itself.

Stay Organized

It is always really helpful to have a list of your budget and expenses to constantly revert back to. A while back, when I created my DIY wedding planner, I included links to my favourite worksheets to include in my binder. One of those worksheets was a budget page, one with predetermined expenses and vendors and another that was completely customizable. If you didn’t catch that post, check it out here DIY Wedding Planner Binder.  Making lists and seeing numbers helps to keep yourself on track, and thus staying firm with your budget.

Once you’ve nailed down your budget, the real fun begins! Choosing colour schemes, decoration ideas, renting venues and ordering your cake, making dress shopping appointments and everything in between! Talking money isn’t always the most fun – but the planning stage becomes a lot less overwhelming when you get it all sorted.

There you have it, the important things to remember when creating your budget. I hope this helps you decide on your vision and your budget for you big day! Comment down below if you have any tips for me in achieving my DIY wedding and saving even more money!

As always, thanks for reading. Be sure to like, comment and share!

Wedding Wednesday | To Do List

I’ve just started planning the big day…and it is safe to say that I am already completely overwhelmed! They don’t prep you for this in the movies! But, I know that people plan weddings everyday, and so I start with what I know: making lists. I’ve made my basic checklist outlining the bones of the wedding planning process. I have too many sub-lists to count, but I wanted to share with you my Master List, if you will. I plan on sharing this list multiple times throughout the planning process, to help you visualize where I’m at with respect to the planning stages!

  • Plan bridal shower
  • Schedule Ceremony rehearsal

  • Book plane tickets

As you can see, I’ve made very little progress thus far, but I kind of feel like I am on pace. The wedding date has been set, the budget has been decided on, we know exactly who we want to stand beside us on the big day and we know where both the ceremony and the reception will take place! I am lucky in that Kyle is very easy-going when it comes to the wedding planning, so as long as I just run my ideas by him he’s satisfied. He does have an opinion about how he wants the day to turn out (as it is just as much his day as it is mine) so I am grateful that he throws around ideas and suggestions too. We have been working on our guest list together and while I thought Kyle wouldn’t want much to do with any of the planning, I am so thrilled that we are working together on this.

I am getting married in my hometown but I currently live some 6000 kms from there, so I am relying on the internet and my wonderful family and friends to help pull this thing together from the home front as well!

A tip I have for anyone who is about to start planning their wedding and doesn’t know exactly where to start is: ask someone! I took to Facebook and I am so thankful that there is a Facebook Page dedicated to brides from my hometown. These woman (and vendors) share experiences, ideas, questions and suggestions about absolutely everything you can imagine and I found a lot  of answers to my very first questions just by searching the content of the page! I also sent a message to a friend of mine from High School, who is currently planning her big day, which is just around the corner! She was super helpful and it was so much fun talking about her ideas and the issues she’s overcome while planning! Luckily one of my BFF’s has also planned her wedding and at around the same budget as I intend on having. She was super helpful when I needed a quick answer via text message about venues and alike. You are the bomb, Em. My mother has also spent hours on the phone with me as I worked out possible venue issues and we bounced alternative ideas off each other (with input from my dad!) Shout out to Chelsea too, who is so completely enthusiastic about my day, sending photos of bridesmaids dresses and taking me to task on choosing a bridal party dress website for my girls to purchase from! (Needless to say she’s on her feet that day in a beautiful navy dress *wink*). She’s experienced in being a bridesmaid, and has already made good pointers that I hadn’t even considered. Thanks girl, you rule.

It is super important to stay positive and upbeat when planning your wedding! I vow to do this with as little stress as possible, so making my list was the first step in pushing out the overwhelming feeling and replacing it with pure excitement.

I hope my list is helpful to those of you at the same stage as I am with planning! It is going to be a lot of work, but with my wedding binder, endless list and so much help and support, I think I can pull this off! Stay tuned for all of the DIY projects and decision making posts to come, and watch for my To Do List posts, so you can stay up to date with the progress I’m making! I’ll be breaking down how I chose my budget, venues and everything in between. Stick around!

As always, thank you for the love and support. And please, for the love of all things holy and good in this world, comment down below if there’s something I am missing from my master list! I need all the help I can get.

Makeup Monday | Flawless Skin

18118912_10155294287636204_3091255557917731219_n“Your skin looks flawless! What makeup do you wear?” I’ve gotten that question on a scattered occasion and my answer will forever be the same. My two-part reply contains this information: 1. ‘Looks flawless’ is much different than actually flawless. 2. Makeup doesn’t matter if you aren’t taking care of what’s underneath. While my skin is the absolute furthest from flawless and I do rely on my makeup application to enhance my features and minimize my problem areas, it is practically impossible to give the appearance of flawless skin if you aren’t taking care of your skin. Here are my 10 tips for taking care of your skin!

  1. Wash your face!

This is probably the most important tip of all. Everyone knows that this is important, but some people still don’t do it. It is simple. Wash your face twice a day. Take two minutes in the morning and two minutes at night. Call it your “you time” if it helps, but just do it!

Washing your face in the morning refreshes your skin and preps it for the day! Because I wash my makeup off at night, my face is makeup-less in the morning, so I wash my face in the morning during my shower! The hot water opens up my pores for a deeper clean. PLEASE for the love of all things holy and good in this world, do NOT shower with your makeup on! For the same reason: your pores open up in the hot shower water, and if you are wearing makeup you are only pushing the dirt further into those pores!

Washing your face at night is extremely important, and if you could only wash your face once a day I would say do it at night! For anyone who wears makeup, I plead with you to never go to sleep with it on. Now, I know that I am fighting a difficult battle, as most people I know admit they don’t take their makeup off before bed. They are too tired or lazy or they forget. Will you forget this? When you fall asleep with your makeup on and your face unwashed you are sleeping with all the dirt and pollution your face has collected throughout the day – gross! It also ages you beyond belief. If you find yourself constantly forgetting to wash your face, keep a package of makeup remover towelettes in your nightstand, so when you have that moment as your head hits the pillow when you think shit. my makeup…but I am SO tired… you can just reach in there and grab a makeup wipe, to at the very least get that dirt, grim and makeup off your beautiful skin before getting your beauty sleep.

  1. Moisturize!

Moisturizing your skin is also a very important step in the skin care process! You want to avoid dry skin because it ages much quicker than hydrated skin. Fine lines and wrinkles are more apparent on your skin when it isn’t adequately moisturized.

  1. Exfoliate!

Exfoliating removes dry and dead skin cells to reveal new ones, which leaves your skin looking more alive, eliminating a dusty look on the skin. Exfoliating helps when applying makeup, as it will melt into your skin as opposed to sitting on top of the dead skin and flaking off. It is important to remember to find a gentle exfoliating regime for your face. A great tip is to soak a washcloth in very hot water for several minutes and then, once you’ve squeezed ALL of the excess water out, lay the washcloth on your face. The steam opens up your pores and lifts the dead skin as well. You can then very lightly swipe the washcloth around your face to remove the dead skin cells.

  1. Face Masks!

Using face masks once a week is another great tip for healthy looking skin! Not only is it great to pamper yourself on a regular basis (because hi, I’m a queen) you can also choose a face mask that attacks your problem areas of the skin. You can choose a deep cleansing mask, hydrating mask, brightening mask, you name it there is a mask for it! It feels amazing and does wonders for your skin.

  1. Be gentle!

Always treat your face like a fragile flower. Never use harsh products, and avoid products that have alcohol content as it can really dry out your skin. It’s always good practice to use lukewarm water instead of hot water when applying water directly to your face. Try not to tug or pull on your skin. That’s a tough one for me as I find myself getting a little rough when washing my face sometimes, and also when I am applying certain eye makeup. I have a bad habit to tug my eye when trying to achieve that perfect wing. I’m working on it! (the wing liner and the tugging). When you are applying cleansing products, always work products into the skin in an upward motion to avoid any sagging!

  1. Drink your effing Water!

18215953_10155312457951204_286501451_oThis is just a great idea in general! This is something that is completely overlooked when people are trying to get healthy in all aspects. Drinking enough water is essential for your body. Drinking water hydrates the skin, flushes out toxins and is overall a great habit to get into to promote a healthier you. Challenge yourself to drink 2 liters a day! My mom does that all the time. If she can do it, we all can! It helps to get a really cool water bottle so you don’t mind reaching for it every 10 seconds!

  1. Keep your hands to yourself!

Stop touching your face. I struggle with this one. For some reason I am just a face toucher. Not only does it remove your makeup and leave it in a patchy mess, but it also transfers oils, germs and bacteria onto your skin and that is straight up disgusting. It’s another thing I am working on.

  1. Clean your Makeup Brushes Regularly!

This is another one people don’t often do. I get it, it can sometimes be tedious to wash all of your brushes, and then having to wait until they are dry. I promise it is completely worth it. It will help your makeup application, as it isn’t holding on to old dried up product, which can make it impossible for a flawless looking finish. Dirty brushes hold oils, germs and bacteria (much like your filthy hands) and using those dirty brushes just pushes all that nasty into your skin. I recommend giving your brushes a light clean (use rubbing alcohol) every few days and a deep clean with a cleaning solution and vigorous scrubbing once a month!

  1. Know your Type!

Everyone has a type. In this case I am talking skin type. Some people have oily skin, some have dry, and some have a combination of both. It is important to know what skin type you are dealing with so you can equip yourself with the proper products. I have dry skin, so I use a liquid foundation with a dewy, luminous finish. People with oily skin tend to use more powder based products and lean towards a matte finish foundation. There are a lot of powder products I use on a regular basis including my bronzer, blush, highlight and under-eye setting powder. I use a finishing spray to remove the powder look to my skin and to melt all of my makeup onto my face. It locks my makeup into place all day too! (As long as I’m not touching my face, of course…)

  1. Beauty Sleep

It’s a real thing. A good night’s sleep is essential to healthy looking skin. The most human growth hormones are released into the bloodstream while you are sleeping. It is important to get plenty of rest to rejuvenate your skin every night. As a side note, stress can cause breakouts and diminish your skin’s glow, so take time to de-stress on a regular basis too!

So there you have it. Those are my tips for achieving healthy skin and that flawless look. My skin has its issues, and I am always trying my hardest to get it looking as healthy as I can. I hope some of these tips were helpful for you. Comment below if you have any other tips for me to try in my journey to the perfect skin!
