Makeup Monday |Quest for Plump Lips Part III

It has been a while since I purchased a lip plumping product I’ve been dying to use! I wanted to test the plumping ability on a one-time usage as well as the plumping effect over time. I tested this product on my lips every day for an entire week, to see what progress it makes, if any, on a long term basis. So today I am going to break down my thoughts and feelings on the Too Faced lip Injections Ultimate Lip Plumper. Does it work?

You tell me!

I think I am convinced! The progress I’ve seen in a week of applications is undeniable. While this product is great for a quick plump before an evening out, it also has lasting plumping over time. I’ve applied it before bed, on top of a lip balm, just to keep them moisturized. I definitely see the results I was after!

The product does have a slight tingling, almost burning sensation…which sounds awful but it is definitely manageable, and the little discomfort subsides within 10 minutes! The formula is pretty sticky, so I recommend blotting it prior to a lipstick application, if you’ve applied it on a night out.

Ultimately, I really do enjoy this product. I see the results I want, both immediately and over time. The product retails at $29.00 CDN and is available at Sephora! They do have a newer product called the Lip Injection Extreme, and that is $39.00. I haven’t tried it, so I cannot say for certain that it does more than the original Lip Injection does, but if it works as good as the original, it is probably worth the money too.

As always, thank you for reading! Don’t forget to like my post and follow my blog before you leave! If you have any methods to achieving plumper lips, leave a comment below and let a girl in on your secret.

Makeup Monday | City Haul

First and foremost, my apologies for the delay in my posts and a huge thank you for your understanding! Without further ado, here’s what I purchased while in the city!

Too Faced Lip Injection – Ultimate Lip Plumper

I bet you can guess why I picked this up! While I won’t say too much about this product just yet, know that I will be putting this product to the test and see if it backs up the claims it has for plumping my lips! So with that being said, stay tuned for a future Makeup Monday Lip Plumping Quest. Does it work?

BUXOM Full-On Lip Cream

IMG_0399Oh, look! Another product claiming to have a plumping effect! You can see where this is going. I picked up this “glossy pout, plumping shine” lip product in the shade White Russian! Once again, I don’t want to spoil any surprises, but I have tried this a few times so far, and I’m definitely liking it.

Mac Matte Lipstick – Please Me

While living back home, I had no access to a MAC Cosmetics counter in the entire province. Now, being only a 6.5 hour drive away, I tend to make a point of picking up a Mac lipstick every time we go to the city. They are by far my favourite lipsticks, which I know is a bold statement given how many brands have released incredible lip products. There’s just something about a Mac lipstick that does it for me. Be it the smell, the packaging, the formula…probably all of the above. I just love them! I’m digging this shade in Please Me which is a muted rosy tinted pink, perfect for summer!

Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette

I know I am painfully late to this party but oh my word. It had been on my list of products to own for quite some time but I’ve been in the business of saving money and I couldn’t justify spending the cash on this! Luckily, its impossible to impulse buy while living way up north and having an expired credit card, so I had time to sit on it for a while until our scheduled trip to the city. In that time I had watched plenty of YouTube videos about the product and my interest grew. It wasn’t until I asked my sister-in-law her honest opinion on whether or not I should purchase it that I had made up my mind. She told me she used it daily and that it was worth every dime! SOLD. I’m in love. I have only used it a few times, but already I can tell you that the pigmentation and blend-ability of these shades are out of this world! I can’t say I regret buying it…I’m kind of obsessed. Near & Dear to my heart.

Wet n Wild Eye Shadow Trio – Walking on Egg Shells

I picked up this little bad boy at Walmart because I have the perfect post in mind to utilize this little trio. My lips are sealed on what exactly that post will be, but these eyes shadows are really pretty and super affordable.

L’Oreal Paris – Infallible Pro Spray & Set

I needed a drug store priced setting spray and because the infallible foundations are so great, I wanted to try out this product from that line too. It is supposed to do what all setting sprays are created to do: prolong the wear of your makeup, set down the product and melt the powders into the skin! I’ve only used this a handful of times, but I think it definitely prolongs my makeup! I like it so far.

L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Mascara

If I’m being honest, this wasn’t the product I originally intended on picking up. I had my eyes on the new Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara, but, while it is released in the states I have yet to find it in Canada! So, I picked up this one instead and I am not disappointed! The applicator is designed to give you fanned out volume and it claims to lengthen and stretch every lash. I picked it up in the shade Blackest Black and it is waterproof! I’m a fan of the packaging too…(but I am desperate to have the Voluminous Lash Paradise because it is supposed to be fantastic and the tube is PINK!)

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails / Complete Salon Manicure polishes

I just grabbed these two shades of nail polishes. There’s no real explanation, the colours just spoke to me! I also really liked them as a combo, so I did a little water marble on my middle finger nail! I need practice with that technique..I hadn’t done it since 2011! I picked up the Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in the shade “Breezy Blue” and the Complete Salon Manicure in the shade “Bow to the Queen”. I like applying these to false nails, because my natural nail beds are very oily, so nail polish doesn’t really stay in my nails very well!

Photo on 2017-06-28 at 6.03 PM #2.jpg

I picked up a refill of my Nivea Gentle Cleansing Cream and the Nivea face wipes for sensitive skin. Are you surprised? I love these products! If you missed my Favourite Nivea Products post, check that out!

I also was lucky enough to finally get a new phone! No more iPhone 5c…its time for newer and better things with the iPhone 7 I’m pretty excited about it…clearly.

Photo on 2017-06-28 at 6.04 PM

I also picked up a new camera battery, as my old one somehow got lost in the move, so you can rest assured that the photo quality of the blog post images will be a lot better from here on out! We picked up a lot of items we needed for our house, like curtains and a new vacuum and a book shelve! All the boring adult stuff, basically. It was a very successful haul and we are all set here at home until our next visit to the city in around 6 weeks, when it will be time to stock up again!

Makeup Monday | Quest For Plump Lips part II

The quest continues! While I absolutely loved the results from my first attempt (Part I), I’m ready to try a second technique to achieve pouty plump lips. Today I’m working with a DIY lip scrub, and the things you’ll need are:

  • A small dish
  • cinnamon powder
  • old tooth brush (with firm bristles)
  • a spatula or mixing tool
  • your favourite lip balm

Let’s get started!

  1. In a small dish, pour a teaspoon (or a heap…if you are like me and don’t measure anything) of cinnamon.
  2. Choose your favourite lip balm. I’m choosing Nivea Essential lip balm…of course!
  3. With a small spatula, or whatever mixing tool you have (fingers included), add some of your lip balm to the cinnamon and mix together until well combined, and resembling a brown paste.
  4. Take your old, firm bristled tooth brush, coat it in your paste, and begin applying it to your lips! Be very gentle during this process, and scrub in a circular motion for several minutes. You should begin to feel a tingly sensation. It should not burn or hurt, but it may feel a little spicy on your lips.
  5. With a paper towel, wipe away your scrub to reveal plumper lips!

The paste, or scrub, you created in conjunction with the toothbrush bristles exfoliating the lips will promote blood flow and slightly swell your lips, making them plumper and fuller. I am actually really happy with my results, and this method should have the plumping affect on your lips for a good 2 to 3 hours!

What do you think? Do my lips look fuller and plump? Comment down below and let me know!

As always, thank you for reading! Be sure to like, share and follow before you go.

Makeup Monday | My Favourite Nivea Products

When it comes to drugstore skin care, I’ve without fail reached for Nivea products time and time again. From face to body, Nivea just has the rich and nourishing products I love for my skin and there hasn’t been many Nivea products I haven’t absolutely loved. I’m going to list my top 9 favourite skin products from Nivea, in the order that I usually apply them to my body.

1. Nivea Nourishing Body Milk

This stuff is a dream for my whole body! It is a rich, creamy and intense moisturizer for dry to very dry skin.  I use this stuff at least once, often twice a day, after my morning shower and again before bed, to really let my skin drink up the moisture that the formula, including almond oil, provides. It smells so fresh and clean and my skin is noticeably smoother and softer.

2. Nivea Gentle Cleansing Cream for Dry Skin

This is my every day face wash. Perfect for my dry skin, it gently cleanses and smoothes while hydrating and soothing my skin, leaving my face looking healthy and clean, without drying it out. Once again, it has a very fresh scent and the cream has small and gentle pink beads throughout and the formula contains almond oil and Hydra IQ. I tend to apply this in the shower in the morning and then again, after I remove my makeup, before bed. I love how clean it makes my face feel, without leaving it feeling tight or dry, like some cleansers have in the past.

3. Nivea Exfoliating Scrub

I use this exfoliator 2 times a week to thoroughly remove dead skin cells and refine my pores. The formula includes Vitamin E, and the scrub respects the skin’s natural moisture balance. I find it leaves my skin looking healthy and glowing.

4. Nivea Refreshingly Soft Moisturizing Cream

This face, body, and hand cream is a rich but also light moisturizer that I use on my face daily. I like my moisturizer to be very hydrating, and while this cream can be used for your body and hands, it is just light enough to perfectly moisturize my face, without it feeling heavy, cakey and thick. The formula contains Jojoba oil and Vitamin E. I have repurchased this time and time again, and the product lasts quite some time, as a little definitely goes a long way!

5. Nivea Men Cooling After Shave Balm for Sensitive Skin

Anyone who knows any Beauty Guru on Youtube knows that this bad boy isn’t just for the men in our lives. It has been rediscovered as the perfect face primer for women, to keep our makeup looking flawless all day long. While this was trendy quite some time ago, and the buzz and hype has completely disappeared, this product is still sitting pretty on my vanity, used as my primer weekly. It has a nice cooling sensation on my skin, evens out my face and provides a great base to apply my makeup on top of, without any drying alcohol. I’m still obsessed.

6. Nivea 2-in-1 Moisturizing Primer

HELLO! I talked about this product in a previous post, First Impressions and I promised you I would let you know what I really thought about it once I gave it a fair shot. The truth is out – this stuff is amazing. It is as if Nivea decided to listen to all the hype behind the Shave Balm and create a real primer, that doubles as a refreshing moisturizer. My prayers have been answered. It’s hydrating and my makeup happily clings to this product for a flawless look all day long. There is never any dry patches for my foundation to stick to or emphasize and overall this product really is a great one! It has the same kind of cooling affect as the shave balm and it has the gentle fresh scent I’ve come to love from Nivea products. Thumbs up, y’all – this one is a good’un.

7. Nivea Essential Lip Balm

I’ve been using this lip balm for years! Nothing else has ever moisturized my lips like this product does, and it is by far my favourite smelling balm I’ve ever used. It doesn’t have the artificial fruity scent or taste, and I don’t know what else to say other than it is 100% a holy grail for me. I have a tube of this in every room, and in my purse, and one on my person at all times. It is that good.

8. Nivea Lip Butter – Raspberry Rose

This one is a recent favourite of mine. I originally picked it up as part of my quest to plumper lips! (Stay tuned to see how I used it) This is a more intense treatment and I have been using it before bed to really moisturize my lips. The smell is truly the perfect raspberry scent and it leaves my lips feeling incredible. I love it! And again, I have incorporated it into another attempt at plumper lips, which I will reveal in the near future.

9. Nivea 3-in-1 Cleansing Wipes for Dry Skin

Lastly, my favourite face wipes! These face wipes are for your eyes, lips and face and gently remove makeup and dirt at the end of a long day. The wipes are infused with Nivea lotion with almond oil, and they are made specifically to remove makeup, even waterproof makeup. It is especially mild for the eye area, and the enrichment of the moisturizer provides eye lash care. Can you ask for anything more in a face wipe? They are adequately saturated with product and effortlessly removes my full face of makeup every night! Once again, it doesn’t leave my face feeling tight or dry, and it doesn’t leave behind a strange residue. I’ve repurchased multiple times and it really is the only wipe I’ve used on my face in a long time. Nivea also has the Creme Care Facial Cleansing Wipes, which I love and use too, which also removes waterproof makeup.

Now, I know I sound like a Nivea commercial, and while I absolutely adore most of their products, there is one product I have tried that just didn’t do it for me. That product is the Nivea Gentle Eye Makeup Remover.

18928488_10155424329956204_438456210_nWhile it feels nice and cooling on my eyes, and removes my eye shadow well, it glides over my eye liner without lifting a single bit of the product, leaving my eye liner looking as great as the moment I applied it. I wear liquid eye-liner almost every day, so I need a remover that can handle it. Oh, and I should mention that my eyeliner is not a waterproof formula. I refuse to tug or pull on my eye area, and this product does nothing to remove my eye liner, so for that reason this product, for me, is a bust! Now, for the rare occasions that I haven’t worn my winged eye liner look, this remover has adequately removed the eye makeup I did wear, which is why this product is almost gone. I didn’t want to waste my money, so I kept it around for days where my makeup wasn’t as dramatic. I won’t repurchase this again, but I intend on using it until its empty because waste not want not.

It it clear that when it comes to drugstore face and body products, Nivea takes the cake for me. Please know that I am not in any way affiliated with the company and this post is in no way sponsored. I just truly love the products and use them regularly!

As always, thanks for reading! Don’t forget to like and share before you leave! If you have any Nivea products you think I should try, or any other products you think I would like, comment down below!

Makeup Monday | Quest for Plump Lips – part I

There’s no way around it- I want plumper lips! So, I’m on a quest to achieve the appearance of plump, pouty lips WITHOUT lip injections, because no thanks. So, my first attempt was to just master the illusion with the power of makeup, and more specifically- lipstick. Heres what I did:

step one:
Line your lips with a nude lip liner. I slightly over lined mine and corrected any areas that are not naturally symmetrical on me (like my cupids bow).

step two:
apply your nude lipstick, and blend it in with your lip liner!

step three:
take a darker lip liner now, and pucker up! You are going to draw lines to emphasize where your lips crease. I draw three on top and three on bottom. (see photos 3 & 4)

step four:
blend those darker lines into your lipstick, and you can even add just a light layer on top with the lipstick.

step five:
add a little gloss JUST in the center of the lips.

BOOM! Plump lips!

This was just my first option for having plumper lips. I’ve got plenty more ideas to achieve this look, so stayed tuned for more ideas in the very near future! If you have any ideas for me to try, comment down below!

As always, thanks for reading. Be sure to like and share my post and show me the love!

Makeup Monday | Top 3 Favourite Affordable Highlighters

Last week, in my first impressions post, I mentioned my new favourite product, the Laura Mercier highlighter. (If you didn’t read that post, check it out here: Weekend Splurge First Impressions) I am obsessed, it’s whatever. I do, however, have a lot of favourites when it comes to pretty much every type of makeup and highlighters are no exception. I have chosen my top 3 favourite affordable highlights to share with you today and I’m so excited about it! Be forewarned that I am a natural highlight kind of girl, and two of the three highlighters I am discussing do have a more natural finish. Disclaimer: The hand swatches do not do these products justice!

So, without further ado and in no particular order let’s begin!

The first highlighter I am going to talk about is the Hard Candy Glow All the Way Baked Bronzer in the shade “Tiki”. The product name is confusing because this is obviously not a bronzer! It gives you a nice sun kissed glow, it feels super soft and creamy and its so natural looking on the skin. It definitely has a golden undertone and its perfect for the tops of your cheekbones, especially during the spring and summer months. It retails for $9.48 CDN.

Next up is not actually retailed as a highlighter at all. I’ve mentioned this in my recent Current Favourites post (I’m Obsessed) and its the Makeup Geek eyeshadow in the shade “Shimma Shimma”. Out of the three highlighters I am talking about today this is by far the most intense highlight shade there is. This is going to give you that strobe look that everyone seems to be looking for lately. It is perfect for the tops of your cheek bones, and incredibly beautiful in the inner corner of your eyes! I love that this is an eye shadow because it is super versatile and extremely beautiful. It retails for $6.00 CDN, which is extremely affordable for an eyeshadow, but if you are using it strictly as a highlight, there isn’t a whole lot of product.

Last, but certainly not least, and probably my favourite affordable and natural highlighter there is, its the Wet n Wild Coloricon Bronzer in the shade “Reserve your Cabana”. Once again, not a bronzer! This shade is absolutely perfect for a bridal makeup look. It gives such a glow from within and makes the skin look beautifully dewy. The product feels so creamy and light. An added bonus is that its SPF 15, which is great. Not to mention the fact that the size of this product is humungous! You get so much for such a great price. I picked this bad boy up for $4.99 CDN. I’m wearing it in the photo above and I just love the dewy look it gives the tip of my nose and tops of my cheekbones!

So there you have it! Those are my top 3 favourite affordable highlights in my collection. I hope you’ve seen something you might like to try, and if you do, please let me know how you liked them! Comment down below if there are other affordable highlighters you think I should give a try. Don’t forget to like this post and share my blog with your friends! The share button is found just below.

Makeup Monday | Weekend Splurge First Impressions.

Happy Monday everyone! I’m just getting back home from a quick visit to Saskatoon and while a weekend away is a much needed break, it leaves me sitting here on post day trying to deliver worthy content to my loyal readers. I really wanted to do a review on the new products I picked up while in the city, but I don’t think it would be fair to use them once and give you my opinion, so that will have to come next week! I can, however, give you my first impressions on the products I purchased this weekend that I am most excited about!

First, let’s just talk about it! I absolutely adore festival season, for reasons such as this! My unicorn headband is so painfully trendy but I can’t get enough of it! It makes putting on my makeup on a Monday even more magical! (I typed in “fun” there but I couldn’t pass up the alliteration and pun, duh) I also picked up this adorable iridescent floral headband too, for a Tuesday or something. #noshame

Now thats out of the way, lets get on with it, shall we? The first product I picked up that I am beyond excited about is the Nivea 2-in-1 Moisturizing Primer. This is appealing to me for a few reasons. Firstly, in effort of complete transparency, the only reason I stumbled upon this product at all was because there was a 1 dollar savings coupon for it, stuck on the front of my Nivea makeup remover wipes! You know me (and if you don’t:) I love any type of savings! Another reason I am intrigued by this product is the claims. “Enriched with Vitamin E and Natural Lotus Extract, provides and even and smooth base for effective makeup application and helps your makeup look great for longer, instantly absorbs thanks to its ultra-lightweight texture, non-greasy formula provides long-lasting moisturization and a fresh skin feeling.” Uh, YES PLEASE. Here in northern Saskatchewan, we have what they call “hard water”, not to mention the fact that in the winter it is extremely cold, and all year round the air is just dry in general. Needless to say, anything that claims to moisturize my skin is worth trying. For those of you wondering, hard water is water that contains high mineral content, which can cause your skin to feel dry, itchy and irritated. The minerals can strip the moisture from your skin and prevents your body’s natural oils from doing their job to keep your skin feeling and looking healthy. Back to what I was saying. Nivea’s 2-in-1 Moisturizing Primer claims that it will do exactly what I want it to do. Here are my first impressions, as I used it this morning. I’ll start with the packaging. I am a sucker for white and blue, so they’ve won me over there, but I am used to primer being packaged in a tube for easy dispensing, so the crock packaging is something I will have to get used to. Next, the smell. It has a pleasant odour, but anyone with sensitivity be careful. The product itself jiggles when you move the crock. (so thats fun…). It definitely felt lightweight when I applied it to my face, and I could feel the moisturizing properties in it. It was cool and soothing on my skin and dried nicely, without my skin feeling tight, or tacky. When I applied my foundation, it blended evenly and my dry patches were not visible. My first impression of this moisturizing primer is that it is a total HIT! I love it so far and I am excited to find out how my makeup wears throughout the day! (Stay tuned for upcoming posts where I reveal my final thoughts.)

The next product I want to talk about is the Tarte Cosmetics Tarteist Pro To Go mini eyeshadow palette. I found this little guy while waiting in the checkout line at Sephora. (of course, all those little goodies entice you to spend even more of your hard earned cash!) I have the Tarteist Pro palette and absolutely love the shadows and their formula so I didn’t hesitate to grab this cute mini. I like the size of these small palettes because I am often traveling out of town now and its awesome to be able to stick this in my overnight bag and feel confident that I have enough to create a few nice looks while I’m away from home, without taking the contents of my vanity! The amazonian clay formula makes the shadows feel so creamy and soft and of course the palette gives off a nice scent of vanilla, as most Tarte products do. The colours inside offer you a few different options for a complete look without having to dip into another palette. They are soft, creamy, easily blended and very pigmented, which is everything you want in an eye shadow. For the look I’ve achieved in the photo, I used the shade “drive” for my transition shade in my crease, and added the shade “stylin” in the outer corner crease for dimension and depth. I packed the shade “dominate” on the lid (with a little help from Mac Fix+) and with my finger I just tapped a little of the shade “hype” on the centre of my lid for good measure.

I’m totally happy with this product, and although this is a first impression, I can recommend this product to you with complete confidence that you’ll love it! Oh, as a side-note, the palette was $30.00 CDN, and as there are six shades within, that breaks down to $5 a shadow and that, I assure you, is worth it. #notsponsored #iwish

Moving on!

The final product I want to talk to you about was the reason I went to Sephora in the first place. It is the Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in the shade Highlight-01.

Before I continue, consider yourself forewarned, this item is pricey. Which is exactly what Kathleen Lights warned me of before she talked about it in one of her videos. But oh my God y’all this is it. This highlighter achieves such a perfect, natural looking glow from within, but can be built up or paired with another to create the intense strobing, blinding highlight that is all the rage right now. I am obsessed. It is the highlight I am wearing in the photo, and I love the subtle glow it gives my skin when the light catches it.  It’s soft, creamy and blends effortlessly. It has a faint smell of…I can’t put my finger on it…cinnamon hearts? Anyway, its a fabulous product, and one I intend on reaching for quite often. I’ll be sure to get my money’s worth out of this one. Damned you, beauty guru, for you were right and I am broke. (Fear not, readers. Next week, I will discuss affordable highlighters that I am equally obsessed with).

I always have to save up my dollar bills for a trip to Saskatoon, as I have nothing available to me here at home, so I get my hands on absolutely everything I can! These are just some products I was extremely happy about picking up this weekend, and I have to say that my first impressions on them are exceptional! I hope you are encouraged to try new products (not necessarily the ones above) because you never know what you’ll absolutely love (or hate).

As always, thanks for reading!
