Anyone who knows me knows that I love beauty products. I spend my free time playing with my makeup and watching my favorite YouTube beauty gurus. Though I am far too intimidated to start a YouTube channel of my own, I always want to share what products I’ve been using and loving. Thus, I am starting a new segment and I think I’ll call it, in true cliché fashion, Makeup Monday, a weekly post about all things beauty and lifestyle! To kick it off, I’m starting with my current list of obsessions! And so, in no particular order, here are some things I’ve been loving lately!
I want to talk about a hair care product first, which is strange for me because, though I adore makeup, hairstyles and hair care is kind of beyond me. It goes right over my head…get it? HA!! Anyway, I digress. Let’s talk about Bed Head Totally Baked Hair Meringue. (Yes, like the pie.)
It is a volumizing and prepping mousse, and from a woman with extremely flat and thin hair, it works! It gives my hair some lift and a nice texture, making it easier to style. If I am being completely transparent, the biggest reason I adore this product is because, you guys, I can’t even describe to you how fantastic it smells! I mean really. They actually have a warning on the label that states, “This hair care product is not a confectionary and must not be consumed.” THAT is how good it smells. It’s the best.
Speaking of hair! I was in the market for a headband recently. Not because I secretly wish I were Blair Waldorf, but because I needed something to keep the hair out of my face while doing my makeup. Found one!
I absolutely adore my cat ear headband. It was something like 4.00$ and the blinged out ears sparkle in my vanity lights. I’m obsessed. Its whatever. Moving on!
New to my foundation collection is the Rimmel London Lasting Finish skin Perfecting Full Coverage Foundation (that’s a mouthful).
It has a lot of bold claims including that it is sweat, heat, humidity and transfer proof for up to 25 hours. I’ll never be able to confirm the claim of 25 hours, because I’m sorry but I don’t sleep with my makeup on. The longest I’ll go wearing makeup is 12 hours, and I can tell you that this foundation lasts! I do have to slightly build it up to achieve the true full coverage I desire but overall it is a really great foundation from the drug store at a very affordable price! It is important to note that it smells really good as well, though slightly perfume-y, so for those of you with scent sensitivity, beware!
NYC has got to be the most affordable brand of makeup there is for such great quality product. I love NYC City Proof Long Lasting Pressed Powder in the shade Translucent. I use this to set my under-eyes and it lasts all day, without creasing, caking or drying out my under-eye area. It also feels super soft on the skin and I haven’t experienced any flash back. It’s a winner.
I also absolutely adore the highly underrated NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder, also in the shade Translucent. Like the pressed powder, it applies very nicely and doesn’t leave my skin looking caked, creased or dried out. I use this to bake, clean up contour, and further set my under-eye and T-zone area. The wonderful Kathleen Lights raves about this product, which was extremely validating, as I have been using it for a long time!
The products I love wouldn’t be what they are without my method of application! Let’s talk about brushes!
The Morphe M439 has now replaced my beauty sponge for daily application of my foundation! Though I love my beauty sponge (and still use it religiously for concealer) it has been really nice using a brush after so long! This brush doesn’t drink up the product, it applies evenly and doesn’t leave streaks.
The next brush the Morphe M438! This is perfect for setting my under-eyes. It is small and has a nice tapered tip. I also use it to set any lighter powder to my face, including the forehead and chin, and below my contour to clean up the edges. Praise the lord this brush is fantastic.
The third and final brush I am going to talk about it the Morphe M310 fan brush. I use this for highlighting the cheekbones and down the bridge of my nose and it is my absolute favorite way to apply my highlighter. It deposits so much product on the face and it has completely stepped up my highlight game.
Yes, Highlighter! My favorite highlight is actually an eye shadow. I’m talking about Makeup Geek’s Shimma Shimma. This color is perfect for under the brow bone, in the inner corner and also the tops of my cheek bones, down my nose, chin and forehead! It is everything.
Setting the face is so extremely important! I finally bit the bullet a few weeks ago while visiting Saskatoon and purchased the Mac Prep and Prime Fix+. Ugh! Can I just say that is product is incredible! I mean, you probably already know that. You are probably thinking “What took you so damn long to get on the fix+ train!” and I wish I had an answer for you. I spray this all over my completed face to set it down and melt the products together, taking any powder looking finish away. It feels so refreshing and I cannot say enough good things about it!
There’s a living creature that just recently joined my little family and to say I am completely OBSESSED is an understatement. Everyone, meet Leyna! This little angel was rescued from a very dangerous situation and Kyle and I are blessed to have her, alive and well, as part of our family! She’s now 3 months old, and despite her very rough first few weeks of life, she is growing, learning, striving and playing with a very healthy, full and happy heart!
Puppies can be a handful! I’ve gone many nights with very little sleep, so I spend my days fighting off headaches. Which leads me to my next and final product of discussion: essential oils! A local health store in the nearest town (3.5 hrs away) has created mixtures of essential oils. The combo I adore in particular is their Headache Helper roller. I am very surprised by the product. I used to think the essential oils was quite gimmicky, and couldn’t understand how scented oil could fix a health problem. This product put all my doubts to rest. It is a blend of peppermint, lavender and frankincense in a base of fractionated coconut oil. I simply roll a small amount of product to my temples, forehead and the back of my neck, and within minutes the sharp pain of my headache is dulled significantly.
So, that concludes my first ever post of my new segment! I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about the products I’ve loved lately! Try them out for yourself and let me know what you think! Comment down below if there are products YOU love that I should give a try.
