It has been a few weeks (like 4, actually) since my last post. Fear not, for I have not abandoned you. I’ve actually just been learning. I’ve always been told that there is a lot involved with planning a wedding and I’ve always been prepared for that. What I wasn’t told is that preparing to plan for a wedding – you know, all the stuff before you even begin planning your big day- has a lot involved too! But, as I am not a full-time bride-to-be, I’ve realized that after that slight shift in my universe I experienced last month, life still continues at full speed and there is nothing I can do to slow it down or stop it, even briefly. I am determined to enjoy every moment of my engagement, the good, the great, and the chaotic. To say my life is busy would be a gross understatement. I have a full time job, a needy, albeit wonderful dog, a fiancé I want to spend time with and an apartment that never seems to stay clean! Let me say it before you do – “wait til you have kids!” I will wait, thank you. These past few weeks have been markedly active as it is leading up to some exciting events!
Let me break these special occasions down for you.
My remarkable parents are the two people responsible for showing me that love is the root of all happiness, that it blossoms and grows stronger and more wondrous over time. They’ve taught me that though love conquers all, it also requires dedication and hard work. My mom and dad showed me these things every day of my life, and they will very soon reach their 25th Wedding Anniversary! Being that, statistically speaking, most couples don’t have the lasting power to reach 25 years together, I’m extremely proud of them and their accomplishment – because that is what it is, an accomplishment. People say if two people are in love it is easy. I profoundly disagree. I disagree that to live with and love someone for 25 years is easy, and quite frankly I believe that merely suggesting the same absolutely dulls the impressive achievement. Yes, at its core, love is the reason a marriage exists, but that love needs to manifest commitment and determination. I commend my parents for reaching 25 years! My parents are two of my best friends, and naturally, I’ve been working on a gift that signifies just how important and inspiring their love story really is. This gift has taken a lot of work, and a lot of help from some amazing people, (similarly to their marriage), but I cannot wait to share this gift with mom and dad next week. They deserve to be cherished and celebrated and that is exactly what I intend on doing. So, here’s to you, mom and dad!
Kyle and I will be celebrating our own love story next week, when all of our family and friends join us for our Engagement Party! Now, that takes some planning! With the help of the aforementioned marvel herself, momma bear, we’re putting it all together. (My dad will be the brains and skill behind how we are feeding everyone!) I fully intend on posting a DIY blog on how we achieved our party on a budget, what decorations and activities we made ourselves AND I’ll include some photos as well! So, because I am going to be posting that entry next week, all I can say is stay tuned!
The most exciting, nerve-wrecking, life-changing event that is about to take place is Kyle’s acceptance into the RCMP Academy! After 13 months of the application process, and having our natural doubts and worries, we finally got the news that on August 15, 2016 Kyle will become a cadet in Troop 13! (Yes! That is in 6 days). This is something he has always wanted to do and I am beyond proud of him for this achievement. He is about to embark on a journey most will not have the privilege to experience. Though the next six months may be difficult at times, I have absolutely no doubt that Kyle will become an exceptional RCMP officer and I look forward to finding out where the RCMP says home will be. Our lives are about to change and I say with complete confidence that I would not want to plunge into this adventure with anyone else. I am so very glad that we are living in a beautiful country that respects and protects our officers. Thank you, my fellow Canadians, for not having hatred in your heart. I know Kyle’s career will have its dangers, I know not everyone likes the Police, but I do know that Kyle will serve and protect this country, and I feel comfort knowing that he’ll be respected and appreciated by most.
So there you have it. That’s a little sneak peak into the events of my life these days! Its exciting and hectic and somewhat up in the air, but I wouldn’t change a thing about it.
