I just wanted to share this with y’all and quickly tell you how I put it together! I didn’t take step-by-step photos this time because I didn’t know I was going to even make this… More
Hello my lovelies!
I know what you are thinking, and to answer the questions on your mind: YES! I have been practicing my disappearing act, and YES! I have succeeded in becoming Houdini. In all seriousness, honesty hour… life has just been happening and unfortunately, I haven’t made much time for myself and the things I love to do, like my blog, my makeup and DIY projects. You know you’ve got stuff going on when you only wear makeup twice in several weeks (especially when you usually wear a full face, daily). While I have missed yet another Makeup Monday, I have put Blushing Bride DIY on the forefront of my mind and the planning of posts to come has begun. For today, I just wanted to give you a little update on my life here in the north and what has been going on lately.
Living in the North
I’ve been living in this northern Canadian community for about 5 months now, and I have to say that I am settling in nicely. I’ll start a job in September, I’m connecting with new friends, slowly but surely getting my house organized and decorated, I’ve started my dog rescue mission, which is in full swing, and my own two dogs are keeping me busy and always making me smile! I have my moments when I wish I was still 5 minutes from Walmart and Michael’s Craft, and the access to healthy foods is limited here. The community I live in has many people causing trouble, but I’ve met some kind people that have renewed my faith – and the grocery store employees are great! I still get looked at differently when I walk by, and many first-time conversations begin with “you a cop or a teacher?”. I have to say the best part about this place is the RCMP members. We are quite like a family here, as we are all so very far from our blood. From backyard fires to BBQs and birthday parties, we do our best to let loose and enjoy each others company as often as possible, and I am grateful for that. This place can mess with your head if you don’t have a support system. All in all, the adjustment period has gone smoothly and I’m in no way unhappy with my life here.
Northern Light Dog Rescue
This has become my passion project! I adopted Leyna from my new friend Dana, who was a psychiatric nurse here in the community. She took it upon herself to rescue as many stray dogs as possible while living here, one of which was my sweet girl Leyna. Leyna and her litter mates were bottle fed and nursed back to health after being born and surviving two weeks in disgustingly cold temperatures. Dana inspired me, and I began picking her brain about what rescuing dogs entailed. She basically taught me everything she knew, and took me along with her during vaccination calls, and together, before she left, we joined forces with volunteers and successfully removed 56 dogs from the community on two separate hauls. Dana has since moved back home and have left me with the task of rescuing these beautiful dogs. I have called my mission the Northern Light Dog Rescue, and so far, with some guidance by Dana, I have 60 rescues to my name. Stay tuned for more information about NLDR and a possible Go Fund me account I’ll be activating so I can continue being the voice for the stray dogs who deserve a happy life! I strive to be the light at the end of the tunnel for the dogs of this community.
Leyna – Post Op
Speaking of dogs…my little runt has made her recovery from the spay surgery quite difficult. What a stressful week it has been. The active and excited pup just couldn’t keep still, and caused some serious swelling around the incision site, resulting in some scary fluid drainage and a very stressful momma. I’m happy to report that she’s doing much better, and, though it meant some serious kennel time and dealing with an annoying Elizabethan collar, she’s finally back on the mend. She is such a turkey.
It is in full swing! Now less than year away, the clock is ticking. I have made some progress in the planning but ultimately I still have so much to accomplish before I say I do! I’m trying not to stress out and I have been relying heavily on my mom and my BFFs to get me through. I’m so excited for our big day. Wedding Wednesday will return, I promise. Hand to God.
A Trip Home
I am so ready to get back to the island! I am eager to spend time by the ocean at my grandmother’s house, sip coffee and gossip with Leslie, have sleepovers with Chelsea in her new home, craft and laugh with my mom, listen to my dad sing live, enjoy thanksgiving Newfoundland style, and stand by Emily as she marries her soul mate! October can’t possibly come soon enough. I’ll be purchasing my plane ticket this week and I CAN’T WAIT! I’ll be spending a whole 4 weeks in total bliss. Bring. It. On.
Working’ on my Fitness
When am I not? Pfffft. Wedding dress shopping will commence while in Newfoundland and I am really trying to be healthy and happy. I’ve been going to the gym daily, and while I really need to work on the nutrition aspect of a healthier life, I am proud that I have fired up the fitness game. I always feel so much better mentally when I am working out and eating right. My confidence shoots to new levels and I am overall just a happier person, which is great for everyone around me…especially Kyle! I can be a real grouch when I pig out. I’m working on that.
It feels so great to be writing again. It’s funny that writing really helps me destress but it is when I am most stressed that I do the least writing. Another thing I am working on. In any case, I am really going to focus on getting back to posting twice a week, at least, and putting out content worth reading. I really appreciate the support and understanding during my ghost phase. y’all are stars.
That is about all I have to report for now. Life is good and all is well. As always, thank you so much for reading. Don’t forget to follow Blushing Bride DIY before you leave.
Hello my beauties! I’m back with another Makeup Monday and today I’m fan-girling hard over the Storybook Cosmetics Wizard Wands! Anyone who knows me knows that I am, like most people, obsessed with the wizarding world of Harry Potter. (Hufflepuff for life). This obsession includes reading the novels and watching the movies too many times to count, analyzing plot holes and conspiracy theories, owning a custom made life size Nimbus 2000 (made by my amazing fiancé), owning figurines, wearing a Marauder’s Map dress, rocking the alumni Hufflepuff Quidditch attire and pretty much everything in between. Needless to say, when these Wizard Wand brushes went viral, I flipped. Believing it more to be an elusive, mythical internet item rather than an attainable product, I simply just swooned at the computer screen whenever they’d pop up! My mother had other plans! She surprised me with these bad boys in the most recent care package and I’m ready to jump in and tell you all how I feel and what I think about these brushes.
First, let me say that these brushes feel so high quality! They are not flimsy or hallow plastic and while they are heavier than the average well made brush, they also don’t weigh too much. The bristles are extremely soft, and while the blending brush bristles are loosely packed, the others feel quite dense.
So, we have 5 eye brushes here (in order from left to right): Angled Liner, Angled Fluffy Blending, Pencil, Fluffy Blending, Flat Packer.
Angled Liner Brush
this has dense bristles and it is great for brows or eye liner. It is a little thicker than I am used to for both my brows and eyeliner, but it seems like a great brush. It is modelled after Hermione’s wand.
Angled Fluffy Brush
This has loosely packed and longer bristles. I would use this brush for blending shadows into the crease or under eye, and it would be perfect for nose contouring. This represents Ron’s wand.
The bristles are more densely packed for this brush and the size and shape is perfect for taking shadows to your under eye! This one looks like Harry’s wand.
Fluffy Blending Brush
This has loosely packed bristles and they are longer bristles like the angled fluffy. This is great for blending shadows into the crease. It is a little longer and looser than I am used to, so I am eager to see how well it blends. This is modelled after the Elder Wand, or, Dumbledore’s wand.
Flat Packer Brush
This is another densely packed brush, perfect for packing colour on the lid. That’s all I can really say. You can absolutely never have enough of these little guys, they are excellent and this adorable wand is no different! It resembles Voldemort’s wand.
So, this morning, as I gulped down my coffee and attempted to keep myself awake for the next newborn puppy feeding, I played around with these brushes and dipped into my Tarte Cosmetics Tarteist Pro Palette to test the quality and performances of the Wizard Wands.
These brushes definitely perform really well! They blended the shadows very nicely and while the longer and loosely packed bristles of the fluffy blending brush made for a lighter blend to build on top of, it still worked so nicely and I know I’ll be reaching for it often, as they are my all time favourite type of eye brush! I spritzed a little Mac Fix+ to my flat packer brush for the lid colour and it worked beautifully as well. The pencil brush is a great size, and the bristles were so soft! They didn’t feel cheap or scratchy on my eyes which is better than some of the other pencil brushes I own. The brushes fit nicely into my hand and were definitely not too heavy to hold and control. I love these brushes! I will be reaching for them all on a regular basis and COME ON! The detail and the accurate replicas of our favourite character’s wands was superb! I’m so happy that I can display these beautiful brushes at my vanity so I can stare in adoration every time I sit down to do my makeup!
Time to give my new favourite brushes a bath! As always, thanks for reading! Don’t forget to like and follow my page before you leave.
First and foremost, my apologies for the delay in my posts and a huge thank you for your understanding! Without further ado, here’s what I purchased while in the city!
Too Faced Lip Injection – Ultimate Lip Plumper
I bet you can guess why I picked this up! While I won’t say too much about this product just yet, know that I will be putting this product to the test and see if it backs up the claims it has for plumping my lips! So with that being said, stay tuned for a future Makeup Monday Lip Plumping Quest. Does it work?
BUXOM Full-On Lip Cream
Oh, look! Another product claiming to have a plumping effect! You can see where this is going. I picked up this “glossy pout, plumping shine” lip product in the shade White Russian! Once again, I don’t want to spoil any surprises, but I have tried this a few times so far, and I’m definitely liking it.
Mac Matte Lipstick – Please Me
While living back home, I had no access to a MAC Cosmetics counter in the entire province. Now, being only a 6.5 hour drive away, I tend to make a point of picking up a Mac lipstick every time we go to the city. They are by far my favourite lipsticks, which I know is a bold statement given how many brands have released incredible lip products. There’s just something about a Mac lipstick that does it for me. Be it the smell, the packaging, the formula…probably all of the above. I just love them! I’m digging this shade in Please Me which is a muted rosy tinted pink, perfect for summer!
Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette
I know I am painfully late to this party but oh my word. It had been on my list of products to own for quite some time but I’ve been in the business of saving money and I couldn’t justify spending the cash on this! Luckily, its impossible to impulse buy while living way up north and having an expired credit card, so I had time to sit on it for a while until our scheduled trip to the city. In that time I had watched plenty of YouTube videos about the product and my interest grew. It wasn’t until I asked my sister-in-law her honest opinion on whether or not I should purchase it that I had made up my mind. She told me she used it daily and that it was worth every dime! SOLD. I’m in love. I have only used it a few times, but already I can tell you that the pigmentation and blend-ability of these shades are out of this world! I can’t say I regret buying it…I’m kind of obsessed. Near & Dear to my heart.
Wet n Wild Eye Shadow Trio – Walking on Egg Shells
I picked up this little bad boy at Walmart because I have the perfect post in mind to utilize this little trio. My lips are sealed on what exactly that post will be, but these eyes shadows are really pretty and super affordable.
L’Oreal Paris – Infallible Pro Spray & Set
I needed a drug store priced setting spray and because the infallible foundations are so great, I wanted to try out this product from that line too. It is supposed to do what all setting sprays are created to do: prolong the wear of your makeup, set down the product and melt the powders into the skin! I’ve only used this a handful of times, but I think it definitely prolongs my makeup! I like it so far.
L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Mascara
If I’m being honest, this wasn’t the product I originally intended on picking up. I had my eyes on the new Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara, but, while it is released in the states I have yet to find it in Canada! So, I picked up this one instead and I am not disappointed! The applicator is designed to give you fanned out volume and it claims to lengthen and stretch every lash. I picked it up in the shade Blackest Black and it is waterproof! I’m a fan of the packaging too…(but I am desperate to have the Voluminous Lash Paradise because it is supposed to be fantastic and the tube is PINK!)
Sally Hansen Hard as Nails / Complete Salon Manicure polishes
I just grabbed these two shades of nail polishes. There’s no real explanation, the colours just spoke to me! I also really liked them as a combo, so I did a little water marble on my middle finger nail! I need practice with that technique..I hadn’t done it since 2011! I picked up the Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in the shade “Breezy Blue” and the Complete Salon Manicure in the shade “Bow to the Queen”. I like applying these to false nails, because my natural nail beds are very oily, so nail polish doesn’t really stay in my nails very well!
I picked up a refill of my Nivea Gentle Cleansing Cream and the Nivea face wipes for sensitive skin. Are you surprised? I love these products! If you missed my Favourite Nivea Products post, check that out!
I also was lucky enough to finally get a new phone! No more iPhone 5c…its time for newer and better things with the iPhone 7 I’m pretty excited about it…clearly.
I also picked up a new camera battery, as my old one somehow got lost in the move, so you can rest assured that the photo quality of the blog post images will be a lot better from here on out! We picked up a lot of items we needed for our house, like curtains and a new vacuum and a book shelve! All the boring adult stuff, basically. It was a very successful haul and we are all set here at home until our next visit to the city in around 6 weeks, when it will be time to stock up again!
As always, thanks for reading! Be sure to like and share my post and follow Blushing Bride DIY before you go!
Ok, you guys! Let’s just chat for a minute because my head feels a little like it is about to explode. There are some days where I feel like I am on top of everything. That the wedding planning is going so smoothly its almost planning itself…or is it? Days like today I feel as if the whole thing is falling below my ears! I get overwhelmed thinking of all the things I need to accomplish in one year – all while being half way across the country. So, I just wanted to share my updated Check list, remind myself what I have already accomplished, and visualize what more needs to be done.

I am happy to report that there are a few more strikethrough lines than my first checklist post! Since last time, I have booked my photographer, created my guest list, chose my adorable Save the Dates, planned and organized my thoughts for the DIY decor, and booked a beauty guru for hair and makeup for myself and my squad. I’m hoping to book my marriage commissioner within the next few days and I am working on my bridesmaids proposal gifts when I return home from a trip to the city this weekend. I also need to turn my mind to ordering a wedding cake very soon, and renting the equipment needed for our backyard ceremony.
Wedding planning is no walk in the park, and there is a reason most brides joke (at least 50% serious) about giving up and eloping! There’s no denying that it gets super overwhelming, and while everyone says “it will all come together” I know I am not the only one at the risk of losing sleep over the big day. I’m extremely lucky to have such amazing parents willing to help in every aspect because Lord knows I could not accomplish this without them. Another saving grace is the online community for local brides in my area (or my wedding’s area) and I’ve found great information and answers to all of my questions there.
I’m just ready for the day to come when I can put on my beautiful dress, tell my handsome man that I will love him forever and dance the night away with my favourite people in the world. That’s what I want this wedding to be.
As always, thanks for reading! If you have any suggestions on how to keep my cool, or any items on my list that I’m forgetting, comment below and don’t forget to like and share my post before you leave.
The quest continues! While I absolutely loved the results from my first attempt (Part I), I’m ready to try a second technique to achieve pouty plump lips. Today I’m working with a DIY lip scrub, and the things you’ll need are:
- A small dish
- cinnamon powder
- old tooth brush (with firm bristles)
- a spatula or mixing tool
- your favourite lip balm
Let’s get started!
- In a small dish, pour a teaspoon (or a heap…if you are like me and don’t measure anything) of cinnamon.
- Choose your favourite lip balm. I’m choosing Nivea Essential lip balm…of course!
- With a small spatula, or whatever mixing tool you have (fingers included), add some of your lip balm to the cinnamon and mix together until well combined, and resembling a brown paste.
- Take your old, firm bristled tooth brush, coat it in your paste, and begin applying it to your lips! Be very gentle during this process, and scrub in a circular motion for several minutes. You should begin to feel a tingly sensation. It should not burn or hurt, but it may feel a little spicy on your lips.
- With a paper towel, wipe away your scrub to reveal plumper lips!
The paste, or scrub, you created in conjunction with the toothbrush bristles exfoliating the lips will promote blood flow and slightly swell your lips, making them plumper and fuller. I am actually really happy with my results, and this method should have the plumping affect on your lips for a good 2 to 3 hours!
What do you think? Do my lips look fuller and plump? Comment down below and let me know!

Some could argue that the wedding venue is the most important aspect of your big day! It sets the mood, theme, tone and experience for both the bride and groom and the guests. Wether you are having a quant backyard wedding (like I am), a wedding on a beautiful beach or you are taking the traditional approach in a church, choosing the place you intend on saying your vows is a really important decision…and one that doesn’t come easily. It takes some work nailing down a venue and it is not a process for the faint of heart.
The first step in choosing a venue is of course, creating a budget! Which we’ve done, right? The budget is important because it lays out exactly what you can afford to spend on a location (tips on creating your wedding budget can be found in a previous post here: Creating a Budget). When the dollar amount for your entire wedding has been agreed upon, its time to do some thinking.
I’ve talked before about the importance of really narrowing in on your vision for you wedding. What is your dream wedding? You need to understand the theme and overall mood you want your wedding day to embody. Find inspiration and really think about what you want your venue to look like. You need to find a place that suits the mood of the event, the size of your guest list, and fits within your budget. Once you envision what you want, let the real work begin!
You need to prepare yourself for the amount of research that must be done to find your perfect venue! It can get really aggravating at times, during the research stage. Often times online, the information provided can be very vague. Some websites may divulge all of the information you need, and others may only provide a way to contact a coordinator. Rest assured, though, the coordinator will have package plans, price layouts and other information readily available once you make that call.
I had a lot of trouble during the research stage. I had to make a lot of calls to get any information at all, and sadly, the information I did receive often times didn’t suit my criteria. I had a spreadsheet I created that really helped me during the research stage. The information included on my spreadsheet, that I was sure to ask coordinators and find online, is as follows:
- Name of Venue
- Capacity limit
- Price rates
- Any restrictions
Once I had called many people, done many hours of research and pulled some hair out, it occurred to me that my options given my budget, vision and plans were very limited. I had to decide what details from the information above could be compromised and which details had to be set in stone. I had to let go of the benefit of the location for me to hold steady on my budget, catering/food/drinks plan, and my vision. The capacity limit was perfect, the price was unbeatable, it was a gorgeous facility and parking was available. Remember that sometimes you will have to compromise, as it is near impossible to find a 100% perfect venue that meets every single detail you desire.
Once you had completed your research you need to create a list of venues that reach your requirements, before going to see these places in person. Some questions to ask yourself when creating this list are:
- Can we afford this venue?
- Is this venue available on our wedding date?
- Is the capacity limit adequate for the number of guests we are inviting?
- Is it a good location?
- Does it suit our style, theme and vision of our wedding?
Once you have compiled your list of possible venues, it is time to visit the locations! I have to send my darling mother out for visits, as I live so painfully far away. Venue visits are your chance to really get a feel for how your wedding will look at that location. You want to be sure you keep in mind the surrounding area of your venue: what can people see beyond the archway, or out the windows? You want to make sure it isn’t overlooking a pile of mud, a junk yard, things of that nature. Really try to take in as much as possible while you are standing there, and imagine yourself on your special day. If it feels right, its right.
Rank your possible venues based on how many requirements they meet and the overall experience when you visited the location, because now it is decision time! Its important to have a short list of venues so you aren’r trying to choose from 10 different places with very different aspects to it. You really should be choosing between two or three different places. Choose the venue that overall just fits you and the groom, and your idea of your perfect day!
As always, thank you for reading. Be sure to like and share this post before you leave, and happy planning!
When it comes to drugstore skin care, I’ve without fail reached for Nivea products time and time again. From face to body, Nivea just has the rich and nourishing products I love for my skin and there hasn’t been many Nivea products I haven’t absolutely loved. I’m going to list my top 9 favourite skin products from Nivea, in the order that I usually apply them to my body.
1. Nivea Nourishing Body Milk
This stuff is a dream for my whole body! It is a rich, creamy and intense moisturizer for dry to very dry skin. I use this stuff at least once, often twice a day, after my morning shower and again before bed, to really let my skin drink up the moisture that the formula, including almond oil, provides. It smells so fresh and clean and my skin is noticeably smoother and softer.
2. Nivea Gentle Cleansing Cream for Dry Skin
This is my every day face wash. Perfect for my dry skin, it gently cleanses and smoothes while hydrating and soothing my skin, leaving my face looking healthy and clean, without drying it out. Once again, it has a very fresh scent and the cream has small and gentle pink beads throughout and the formula contains almond oil and Hydra IQ. I tend to apply this in the shower in the morning and then again, after I remove my makeup, before bed. I love how clean it makes my face feel, without leaving it feeling tight or dry, like some cleansers have in the past.
3. Nivea Exfoliating Scrub
I use this exfoliator 2 times a week to thoroughly remove dead skin cells and refine my pores. The formula includes Vitamin E, and the scrub respects the skin’s natural moisture balance. I find it leaves my skin looking healthy and glowing.
4. Nivea Refreshingly Soft Moisturizing Cream
This face, body, and hand cream is a rich but also light moisturizer that I use on my face daily. I like my moisturizer to be very hydrating, and while this cream can be used for your body and hands, it is just light enough to perfectly moisturize my face, without it feeling heavy, cakey and thick. The formula contains Jojoba oil and Vitamin E. I have repurchased this time and time again, and the product lasts quite some time, as a little definitely goes a long way!
5. Nivea Men Cooling After Shave Balm for Sensitive Skin
Anyone who knows any Beauty Guru on Youtube knows that this bad boy isn’t just for the men in our lives. It has been rediscovered as the perfect face primer for women, to keep our makeup looking flawless all day long. While this was trendy quite some time ago, and the buzz and hype has completely disappeared, this product is still sitting pretty on my vanity, used as my primer weekly. It has a nice cooling sensation on my skin, evens out my face and provides a great base to apply my makeup on top of, without any drying alcohol. I’m still obsessed.
6. Nivea 2-in-1 Moisturizing Primer
HELLO! I talked about this product in a previous post, First Impressions and I promised you I would let you know what I really thought about it once I gave it a fair shot. The truth is out – this stuff is amazing. It is as if Nivea decided to listen to all the hype behind the Shave Balm and create a real primer, that doubles as a refreshing moisturizer. My prayers have been answered. It’s hydrating and my makeup happily clings to this product for a flawless look all day long. There is never any dry patches for my foundation to stick to or emphasize and overall this product really is a great one! It has the same kind of cooling affect as the shave balm and it has the gentle fresh scent I’ve come to love from Nivea products. Thumbs up, y’all – this one is a good’un.
7. Nivea Essential Lip Balm
I’ve been using this lip balm for years! Nothing else has ever moisturized my lips like this product does, and it is by far my favourite smelling balm I’ve ever used. It doesn’t have the artificial fruity scent or taste, and I don’t know what else to say other than it is 100% a holy grail for me. I have a tube of this in every room, and in my purse, and one on my person at all times. It is that good.
8. Nivea Lip Butter – Raspberry Rose
This one is a recent favourite of mine. I originally picked it up as part of my quest to plumper lips! (Stay tuned to see how I used it) This is a more intense treatment and I have been using it before bed to really moisturize my lips. The smell is truly the perfect raspberry scent and it leaves my lips feeling incredible. I love it! And again, I have incorporated it into another attempt at plumper lips, which I will reveal in the near future.
9. Nivea 3-in-1 Cleansing Wipes for Dry Skin
Lastly, my favourite face wipes! These face wipes are for your eyes, lips and face and gently remove makeup and dirt at the end of a long day. The wipes are infused with Nivea lotion with almond oil, and they are made specifically to remove makeup, even waterproof makeup. It is especially mild for the eye area, and the enrichment of the moisturizer provides eye lash care. Can you ask for anything more in a face wipe? They are adequately saturated with product and effortlessly removes my full face of makeup every night! Once again, it doesn’t leave my face feeling tight or dry, and it doesn’t leave behind a strange residue. I’ve repurchased multiple times and it really is the only wipe I’ve used on my face in a long time. Nivea also has the Creme Care Facial Cleansing Wipes, which I love and use too, which also removes waterproof makeup.
Now, I know I sound like a Nivea commercial, and while I absolutely adore most of their products, there is one product I have tried that just didn’t do it for me. That product is the Nivea Gentle Eye Makeup Remover.
While it feels nice and cooling on my eyes, and removes my eye shadow well, it glides over my eye liner without lifting a single bit of the product, leaving my eye liner looking as great as the moment I applied it. I wear liquid eye-liner almost every day, so I need a remover that can handle it. Oh, and I should mention that my eyeliner is not a waterproof formula. I refuse to tug or pull on my eye area, and this product does nothing to remove my eye liner, so for that reason this product, for me, is a bust! Now, for the rare occasions that I haven’t worn my winged eye liner look, this remover has adequately removed the eye makeup I did wear, which is why this product is almost gone. I didn’t want to waste my money, so I kept it around for days where my makeup wasn’t as dramatic. I won’t repurchase this again, but I intend on using it until its empty because waste not want not.
It it clear that when it comes to drugstore face and body products, Nivea takes the cake for me. Please know that I am not in any way affiliated with the company and this post is in no way sponsored. I just truly love the products and use them regularly!
As always, thanks for reading! Don’t forget to like and share before you leave! If you have any Nivea products you think I should try, or any other products you think I would like, comment down below!
Save the Dates – what are they? Are they necessary? Where do I start?
Officially announce your wedding date by sending your guests your Save the Dates to let them know they will be invited to your celebration! Now, you don’t necessarily have to send any, but its a courtesy to give your guests a heads up on your wedding plans, for those who need to make travel arrangements, save some extra cash and arrange their busy schedules. Since a lot of our VIG (Very Important Guests) are living in the United States, we wanted to give everyone ample time to plan and prepare for our big day. Cutting the Save the Dates can help your budget, but in the long run, if you find a great deal like I did, it really isn’t breaking the bank, and I had a really great time creating ours.
The general rule is to send them 6 to 8 months prior to the wedding. Any later than that they might as well be invitations. Send them to everyone you want to attend your wedding, even include the wedding party, siblings and parents! It is important to be absolutely positive about your guest list prior to sending out your Save the Dates, because once they are in the mail, there really isn’t any turning back. If you are following the steps I have, you’ll already have everyone’s mailing information since you’ve created your guest list and the guest’s important information.
You may not know all of the nitty gritty details, so only the crucial information is needed for now. You’ll want to include Who (the couple) What (the wedding…duh) When (the date) and Where (the city, as the venue may not be booked and its not necessary at this stage).
The really fun part about the Save the Dates is getting to design something true to the couple themselves. It isn’t necessary for your Save the Dates to really match the theme or colours of your wedding, as they are much more casual, and colours and themes may not be chosen just yet. Your goal is to create a Save the Date that represents you as a couple and will get the guests excited for your big day! As ours haven’t been sent, I won’t be showing you what we’ve come up with just yet, I want it to be a surprise to all those who will receive them. I will say that we kept it simple and sweet and in a subtle way, our Save the Dates suit our personalities.
I recommend checking out Vistaprint when you are ready to order your Save the Dates. The quality is amazing and the deals are unbeatable! It’s what I decided to go with and I’m really happy with them. I’ve ordered business cards and Christmas cards from Vistaprint in the past and I’ve never been disappointed. (Disclaimer: I am NOT sponsored or paid to say that. It’s just true!)
Having our Save the Dates completed makes this feel even more real! I can’t wait to pop them in the mail so that all of our family and friends can start preparing for our special day.
The only way to do this part of the wedding planning is to have fun and don’t stress about them. Save the Dates are exciting, laid back and fun so you should enjoy it.
As always, thanks for reading! Stay tuned for the Save the Dates reveal. Don’t forget to follow, like and share this post before you go!
There’s no way around it- I want plumper lips! So, I’m on a quest to achieve the appearance of plump, pouty lips WITHOUT lip injections, because no thanks. So, my first attempt was to just master the illusion with the power of makeup, and more specifically- lipstick. Heres what I did:
Line your lips with a nude lip liner. I slightly over lined mine and corrected any areas that are not naturally symmetrical on me (like my cupids bow).
apply your nude lipstick, and blend it in with your lip liner!
take a darker lip liner now, and pucker up! You are going to draw lines to emphasize where your lips crease. I draw three on top and three on bottom. (see photos 3 & 4)
blend those darker lines into your lipstick, and you can even add just a light layer on top with the lipstick.
add a little gloss JUST in the center of the lips.
BOOM! Plump lips!
This was just my first option for having plumper lips. I’ve got plenty more ideas to achieve this look, so stayed tuned for more ideas in the very near future! If you have any ideas for me to try, comment down below!

Something many brides and grooms to-be struggle with while planning their wedding is creating a guest list. There are so many questions, like how many people should we invite? Who should we invite? Are we going to hurt anyone’s feelings? Are we accidentally leaving anyone out? What if we have too many people on our list…how do we shorten it? How are we going to break the news? It can be pretty overwhelming if you allow it to be.
The first thing I recommend doing is for both you and your fiancé to write separate lists, and combine them at the end. Kyle and I did this for family members and close friends. Write all of your family members first, followed by friends, significant relationships, co workers and other people you’d like to include if possible. Combine both lists to make your master list to work from. Some questions you should be asking yourself when creating this list are:
- How many people will our venue allow?
- Is this person a family member? Immediate or distant?
- Is this person a friend? or a coworker?
- Have you spoken to them in the last 6 months?
- Would you be upset if you didn’t get invited to their wedding?
- Can you imagine your big day without them?
- Would they make your wedding even more fun?
Once you have the master list, you can cater the list to your capacity limit and your budget and begin the process of elimination. It may be a good idea to prioritize the people on the list by dividing the list into people who:
a) without question MUST be at the ceremony;
b) you really want to be in attendance; and,
c) would be nice to include if possible.
We decided that in order to keep our numbers low and and be sure to include the people we most want to attend, we would not allow plus one’s. Some of our friends and family members are in long-term and serious relationships, and in those cases, the significant others will absolutely be invited. Our rule of thumb is that if we have met the significant other, or if they have been a couple for as long as we have, they are invited.
Once you’ve finalized your list, cross-checking to ensure no one has been forgotten, you can begin to record your guest list and jot down the important information needed. You create the “Guest List Check List” as I like to call it. I found a great worksheet online while creating my Wedding Planning Binder, which you can find here: Wedding Planning Binder. The information you’ll likely need is:
- email address
- telephone number
- # of guests
- Save the Date sent?
- Invite sent?
- RSVP received?
- Thank You Card sent?
It was a lot easier for us to formulate a great guest list, because as I said before, we are not having a traditional sit-down dinner during the reception so the number of guests won’t necessarily affect our budget very much. Our ceremony is going to be rather intimate and small, so we needed to be sure to only include the extremely important people in our life. Our reception and dance has a larger venue that can hold more people, so we were really able to play around with extending our invites to people we wouldn’t have been able to accommodate at the ceremony!
Kyle and I didn’t have too difficult a time deciding on our guest list, and we were absolutely on the same page with who we wanted to invite and who we could do without. Don’t invite people purely out of guilt or out of the feeling of obligation. Choose your guest list solely on who you most want to share your day with and the process will go a lot easier.
